The Rural Support Trust is a charitable organisation set up to work with rural individuals and/or communities when times are tough on farm or in the family. There are 14 Rural Support Trusts across New Zealand, each trust is made up of rural people with a range of experience and knowledge in the farming sector and skilled in dealing with challenging situations. They can facilitate a referral to the right professional help, such as farm management, mentoring or counselling.
Rural Support can also assist farmers and communities during and after extreme weather and other adverse events.
During an adverse event such as weather or Mycoplasma bovis, Rural Support will work with local Civil Defence, industry partners, agencies, services and Government to encourage a speedy recovery. Help may also be in the form of rescue and movement of stock, financial support and funding applications and labour support.
Sometimes things can get a bit too much, and Rural Support Trust has a team of dedicated members across New Zealand available for a free and confidential chat. The support includes advice, health, mental health and counselling services to help improve the wellbeing of the rural community. Help is only a phone call away.
